ICCTA’s main focus is its relationship with the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), its counterpart in the manufacturing world. ICCTA and ICCA cooperate on a regular basis on issues such as health, safety, environment, trade policy and industry efforts to eliminate chemical weapons and diversion to illegal drugs.
ICCTA also focuses on forming bonds with other international organisations such as the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), World Health Organisation (WHO), World Trade Organisation (WTO) and via national channels and Fecc, with the European Union institutions.

Environmental matters
Environmental matters have become priority for ICCTA as much of the governmental legislation increasingly affects the business of ICCTA members. ICCTA’s work involves bringing together its members to share information on legislatory actions. In meetings, the members share the results of their own advocacy to governments and institutions such as the European Commission and the European Parliament.
ICCTA’s role is also to represent its members and their view at a world-wide level. In 1994 for example, ICCTA, in a letter to UNEP, expressed the full support of its members for the UN Code of Ethics on the international trade in chemicals. It was also stated that ICCTA members fully comply with the UN Code by meeting the environmental standards of the RC programs. In 2002, ICCTA was represented by Fecc at a WHO Consultation meeting on Good Trade and Distribution Practice of Pharmaceutical Starting Materials.
Safety of chemicals
Members of ICCTA regularly exchange information on and experiences with respective pieces of legislation in their countries. On the New EU Chemicals Policy ICCTA had extensive consultations and exchanges of views. This serves as an early warning system for colleagues in other countries. Action is only taken by ICCTA if necessary.
International trade
In accordance with its Mission Statement, ICCTA promotes international free trade and fair competition within the framework of the WTO.

- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from companies
This information is made available to the members and gives a good indication of trends within the sector. The data also gives a picture of successes in RC/RD implementation.
